Fireflies.ai Pro

Meeting transcription and summaries in the category where the do-it-yourself path is unusually accessible, at a multiple that annual billing roughly halves.

STEEP

Genuine work exists on top of the API, but the multiple is high for what it buys. A motivated user has cheaper paths available.

§1 · Billing

What the price actually is

$18 per seat per month month-to-month. The same seat is advertised at $10 on annual billing, which roughly halves the multiple below. Business and Enterprise sit above at $19 and $39 per seat on annual billing.

§2 · Assumption

The usage this is priced against

Ten hours of meetings a month transcribed with speaker separation, plus 25 generated summaries with action items.

Someone using it half as much sees double the multiple. The assumption is the argument — if you disagree with it, the number below is not about you. Change it in the calculator.

§3 · Arithmetic

The cost math, in full

Estimated monthly inference cost

600 audio minutes$3.60

Speech-to-text transcription at $0.01 per audio minute · 10 hours of calls, transcribed and diarised

375,000 input tokens$1.13

Mid-tier frontier text model at $3.00 / 1M input tokens · 25 summaries with action-item extraction

22,500 output tokens$0.34

Mid-tier frontier text model at $15.00 / 1M output tokens

Rates come from a dated rate card of representative published API prices, not from the vendor. Nobody outside these companies knows what they actually pay; volume discounts and in-house serving both push real costs below these figures, which makes every multiple here a floor rather than a ceiling.

§4 · Reasoning

Why this verdict, not the number

This entry exists to test whether the verdict given to Otter generalises, and it does. Joining calls reliably across several platforms and keeping calendars connected is real, unglamorous maintenance. But transcription is the category where open models caught up fastest — self-hosted Whisper is genuinely competitive — which makes the same multiple harder to defend here than it would be somewhere the alternative is worse. On annual billing this moves toward fair, which is worth stating plainly rather than burying.

What the price buys besides tokens

  • Integrations
  • Scale & infra
  • UX craft

A bot that reliably joins Zoom, Meet and Teams without anyone remembering to press record, plus a searchable archive the whole team uses. The reliability is worth more than it sounds and breaks constantly when self-built.

§5 · Leaving

What you lose if you leave

Automatic joining and recording, and the shared searchable archive. Colleagues using the same archive is a network effect a personal script cannot reproduce.

The honest cheaper path

Whisper self-hosted or via API over a local recording, then any model for summaries. Cheap and accurate; you lose the calendar automation and the bot, and you will notice both.

§6 · Your numbers

Recompute it for yourself

Recompute this for your own usage

Your estimated cost
Your markup
Cost per unit of our assumption

Scaling assumes your usage has the same shape as ours, just more or less of it. If your mix is different — far more output than input, say — the estimate drifts. It is an estimate either way.
