Adobe Firefly
Priced at or below what the same volume of generation costs on a commodity API, on a model trained specifically so its output can be used commercially without inheriting a copyright argument.

What the price actually is
Firefly Standard, billed monthly. Sold both standalone and bundled into Creative Cloud subscriptions, and tiers are bounded by generative credits rather than seats, so what a credit buys matters as much as the fee. The plans page defeats automated checks, so this figure is confirmed by hand.
The usage this is priced against
400 image generations a month from the included credit allowance, priced against what the same volume would cost on a commodity hosted image API.
Someone using it half as much sees double the multiple. The assumption is the argument — if you disagree with it, the number below is not about you. Change it in the calculator.
The cost math, in full
Estimated monthly inference cost
Hosted image generation at $0.04 per image · 400 generations from the tier's credit allowance
Rates come from a dated rate card of representative published API prices, not from the vendor. Nobody outside these companies knows what they actually pay; volume discounts and in-house serving both push real costs below these figures, which makes every multiple here a floor rather than a ceiling.
Why this verdict, not the number
The distinguishing feature is not the pictures, it is the provenance. Firefly is trained on licensed and owned material and sold with an indemnity for enterprise use — a legal position, bought deliberately, that no GPU bill or token rate can express. For a company that cannot risk generated assets carrying an unresolved training-data claim, that indemnity is the entire product and the image quality is secondary. Cheaper models exist and produce comparable pictures; they do not come with anyone standing behind them.
What the price buys besides tokens
- Proprietary model
- Compliance
- Integrations
Models trained on licensed material, an indemnity attached to commercial use, and integration into the tools professional designers already work in. The indemnity is the part that is genuinely hard to replicate, because it is a balance-sheet commitment rather than a feature.
What you lose if you leave
The indemnity, and generation inside Photoshop and Illustrator rather than beside them. For a freelancer neither may matter; for a brand's legal team the first one is the whole decision.
The honest cheaper path
Flux, SDXL or any hosted image API produce comparable output for less. None of them indemnify you, and the training-data question stays yours to answer.
Recompute it for yourself
Recompute this for your own usage
Scaling assumes your usage has the same shape as ours, just more or less of it. If your mix is different — far more output than input, say — the estimate drifts. It is an estimate either way.
